PHOENIX -- Gerald Green was in a generous mood after his best game of the season. Akiem Hicks Youth Jersey . Green had a strong second half to finish with a season-high 28 points and lead the Phoenix Suns in a 121-114 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday night. Green then pledged to pay any fine the NBA might hand down to rookie teammate Alex Len, who was ejected after a flagrant foul following an altercation involving the Lakers Nick Young in the second quarter. "Hope the NBA doesnt do anything, but if it does, Ill take care of it," Green said. Green was careful with his shooting, shying away for 3-point attempts and finishing 12 for 18 from the field. "I felt like I wasnt settling for my jumper," Green said. "Coach is still telling to shoot the ball so Im going to continue to do that. I just tried not to take as many 3s as I normally do." Channing Frye had 10 of his 20 points in the fourth quarter and Markieff Morris scored 17 of his 24 in the first half to help the Suns snap a three-game skid. Goran Dragic added 18 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists. Pau Gasol scored 24 points to lead the Lakers and Wesley Johnson had 22 against his former team. Los Angeles, already short-handed with five players -- including star Kobe Bryant -- out with injuries, lost leading-scorer Young midway through the second quarter when he was ejected for throwing a punch at Dragic. After being hit in the face by Len going up for a layup, Young retaliated by shoving Len and then swinging at Dragics face while being pushed away from the fray. Len was tossed and the Suns Marcus Morris was issued a technical foul for his role in the fracas. Young, who had nine points at the time, took off his jersey and tossed his undershirt into the crowd on his way to the locker room. "I just reacted and got caught up in the moment. Like anyone would have," Young said. "It was a tough foul." Young expressed his displeasure with his teammates for not coming to his defence after the Lakers lost for the sixth straight time. Young could face a suspension for his actions and leave the Lakers in more dire straits. "What Im mad about is it was 1-on-5," Young said. "I felt like if someone would have gotten in the middle of everything it wouldnt have escalated as much. I felt bad for Dragic. He was right there. I didnt throw (a) punch. I was trying to shove people out of my way. I was getting pushed further back. It was more trying to get out." The Lakers led by 13 points in the second quarter after Youngs ejection. A 3-pointer from the top of the key by Kendall Marshall gave the Lakers a 56-43 lead. The Suns finished the quarter on an 11-2 run, topped off by P.J. Tuckers layup at the halftime buzzer to cut the Lakers lead to 58-54. The Suns led by eight in the first quarter, but the Lakers scored the last nine points of the period to take a 27-26 lead into the second. Back-to-back baskets by Chris Kaman put Los Angeles ahead. Green scored 16 of his points in the third quarter, and his block of Gasols layup attempt started a fast-break resulted in a basket by Dragic that put the Suns ahead 72-70. Greens step-back 20-foot jumper gave the Suns a 79-74 lead with 4:09 left in the third. His chest-pass assist for Fryes dunk made it 86-79 for Phoenix with 55 seconds left. "We started attacking the rim," Frye said. "We need to be aggressive, take advantage of mismatches and get out and run." The Lakers tied the score at 91 with Johnsons 3-pointer at the 9:53 mark of the fourth quarter. But back-to-back layups from Suns reserve Ish Smith made it 102-93, and the Suns were never seriously threatened the rest of the way. "Were not winning and again, we gave up 30-some (37) in transition and about 60 or 70 (64) in the paint, and thats where its been the last five or six games," Lakers coach Mike DAntoni said. "Weve got to be able to solve that problem somehow." NOTES: The Suns are a win away from their first regular season sweep of the Lakers since the 2004-2005 season. ... In the second game of their day/night doubleheader at Minneapolis, three Blue Jays pitchers, Steve Delabar, Sergio Santos and J.Ive looked high and low. Searched databases and websites. And I contacted the PGA Tour, which continues to look into it. While I cant be 100 per cent certain, based on my sleuthing, the six Canadians who will start in the Frys.Com Open Thursday represents a record for a PGA Tour event not based in Canada. Mike Weir, David Hearn, Graham DeLaet, Brad Fritsch, Adam Hadwin and Nick Taylor will start play in the 2014-15 season opener being held in Napa, Calif., A seventh Canadian, Roger Sloan, is waiting patiently at the tournament, sitting as the fourth alternate as I tap this out. Its pretty heady stuff for Canadian golf fans. Next to the Americans (102) and the Aussies (nine), Canada has the most golfers in this tournament. Thats more than South Africa, more than England and more than South Korea. I can remember days when we would have fewer players in tournaments than golf powerhouses such as Denmark or Fiji. For all six players, the new season represents a chance, an opportunity to start again. Weir, the most seasoned of the bunch, is entering his 18th year on the tour, which, in itself is hard to fathom. After burning his two career money list exemptions the last two seasons, hes playing this year by virtue of finishing 109th on last years money list. In the off-season, Weir signed up with a new coach, Martin Ayers, an Aussie who Weir hopes will get him some consistency. The two spent a great deal of time working on fundamentals. Simple stuff such as alignment and aiming. The lefthander is hoping to find more of what we saw at the HP Byron Nelson last year, where he finished second. Im not sure if Weir, who turns 45 in May, has another major in him, but certainly he has plenty of game left if can find some consistency through the bag. For Graham DeLaet, the time is ripe, perhaps even past due, to finally get a victory. The Weyburn, Sask., native has done just about everything but win on tour and certainly fans are wondering when that breakthrough is going to happen. He is too, no doubt. I would have bet the house that DeLaet would have grabbed a win by now. Trouble is, winning on the PGA Tour is hard. Lots of things have to go your way – good breaks and great play. He might not win this year or he might win five times. But it seems more than likely that he will at least give himself lots of chances. DeLaet is also eyeing the Presidents Cup, taking place in South Korea next October. Hes currently fifth on the points list and if he plays this year as he did last, he should be a lock to bring his emotional game to the squad. David Hearn, by his own admission, is not a guy who is going to go out and shoot a 61 very often. But he will post four rounds of 68. And, as he showed at the Players last year, he can do it on difficult courses. His game is built on consistency and thats what hes hoping to build on for this year. Dont be surprised if Hearn posts a win. He has the talent to do so and he is continuing to get comfortable year after yeaar on tour courses. Devin Hester Womens Jersey. Brad Fritsch didnt fare well last year and is playing this week thanks to his top-10 finish in the last regular PGA Tour event, the Wyndham Championship. However, it will also count as his minor medical extension – he received one start for time missed due to injury last year. He needs to finish eighth or better to retain his card for this season. Thats a tall task, but the Ottawa native is more than capable. If he doesnt get that done, hell have head back to the Web.com tour for another year. Thats not the ideal option but Fritsch has a good attitude about his job and is more than prepared to tee it up on that circuit if need be. The Canadian getting the most attention in the pre-season is Adam Hadwin, and with good reason. He tore up the Web.Com Tour last year, finishing as the leading money winner. He was also a finalist for player of the year. Confident without being cocky, Hadwin has the perfect game for the PGA Tour. I would not be the least bit surprised if he became the next Canadian to win on the PGA Tour, ending the drought that extends back to Stephen Ames 2009 win at the Childrens Miracle Network Classic. Nick Taylor put on a finishing kick in the Web.Com Tour finals to gain playing privileges on the PGA Tour. Many thought he would have been here before this, having put up a remarkable amateur career, which included being ranked No. 1 in the world. Of course we tend to do that as Canadian fans, expecting way to much way too soon. But more seasoning was required and now Taylor appears ready for the big leagues. He has played well at this level before – that U.S. Open performance back in 2009 is well known – now he needs to show he can do it consistently. Sloan, who figures he is assured of getting into the McGladrey in a few weeks, will play a waiting game. His status is well down the exemption list and hell need to hope for a few WDs over the next few events to earn spots in fields. Of course he won last year on the Web.Com Tour, at home no less, taking the Nova Scotia Open. While he sputtered across the finish line at the end of the season in no small measure due to the brutal schedule he was forced to play, he is capable of playing on the PGA Tour. Hell just need to bring his best stuff early to keep his status. Its an interesting time, for sure. Now, not all these players will get a full slate of starts. Taylor and Sloan will need fast starts to solidify their positions. Fritsch will need an exceptionally speedy beginning, as in one week. The other four can pick and choose, with DeLaet getting into more of the bigger events thanks to his world ranking. Its great to have a half-dozen out there, playing for themselves but with Canadian flags on their bags. So which one will perform best this year? Or even this week? Its nice to have some choice. I have been at this long enough when there were stretches where no Canadians were playing on the tour. This, I can assure you, is better. ' ' '
